Preparing for Operation Safe Driver Week 2025: What You Need to Know

Operation Safe Driver Week 2025 is set for July 6–12. Carter Express encourages all drivers to be prepared as law enforcement increases focus on unsafe driving behaviors like speeding, distracted driving, and following too closely. Learn what to expect, how to avoid violations, and how to represent Carter Express with professionalism and safety on the road this July.

Each July, law enforcement across North America takes part in Operation Safe Driver Week—a nationwide initiative aimed at improving behavior on the road for both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers. In 2025, Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled for July 6–12, and Carter Express wants to make sure our professional drivers are informed, prepared, and ready to shine.

Let’s break down what to expect and how you can stay ahead of the game.

What Is Operation Safe Driver Week?

Led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), Operation Safe Driver Week focuses on identifying and correcting unsafe driving behaviors that cause crashes. While Roadcheck in May targets mechanical safety and compliance, this July event centers around how drivers behave behind the wheel.

Throughout the week, law enforcement officers will be on heightened alert for risky driving behavior from both truckers and passenger vehicle drivers.

2025 Focus Area: [To Be Announced]

Each year, CVSA picks a specific theme or focus area to highlight. Previous years have focused on:

·       Speeding

·       Distracted driving

·       Following too closely

·       Improper lane changes

·       Failure to wear seatbelts

We’ll update you as soon as the 2025 focus is announced. Until then, it’s best to assume all driving behaviors will be under close watch.

What Law Enforcement Will Be Watching For

Officers will be looking for the following violations:

Unsafe Driver Behaviors:

·       Speeding

·       Distracted driving(cell phone use, eating, etc.)

·       Following too closely

·       Improper lane changes or turns

·       Not using seat belts

·       Driving under the influence

·       Aggressive or reckless driving

Documentation and Vehicle Checks May Include:

·       Valid CDL and medical card

·       HOS and ELD compliance

·       General vehicle condition (lights, tires, etc.)

How You Can Prepare

At Carter Express, we believe safe driving isn’t just something we focus on during inspections—it’s a daily commitment. But during Operation Safe Driver Week, it’s especially important to double down on good habits.

Watch your speed.

Stay within posted limits—especially in construction zones and inclement weather.

Limit distractions.

Phones, GPS, food—anything that takes your eyes off the road can wait. Stay focused.

Increase following distance.

Give yourself plenty of space to react. It shows professionalism and prevents accidents.

Stay calm, even when others don’t.

Other drivers may be impatient or careless. Stay cool and don’t engage in road rage.

Buckle up—always.

Not wearing a seat belt is one of the easiest violations to avoid.

Aside from avoiding tickets or citations, participating in Operation Safe Driver Week is about demonstrating the high standards Carter Express drivers are known for. You’re not just operating a truck—you’re representing a company that values safety, professionalism, and pride on the road.

As always, we are hereto support you. If you have questions about safe driving practices, want to brush up on any DOT regulations, or need a vehicle safety check, don’t hesitate to reach out to your driver manager or the safety team.

Operation Safe Driver Week is your time to show the rest of the road what true professionalism looks like. Carter Express drivers set the bar high, and we’re confident that in 2025, you'll continue to lead the way.

Thank you for driving smart, staying safe, and being the kind of driver others can look up to.
